The University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) Tritons is the athletic program for the University of Missouri–St. Louis. The Tritons compete in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) for most sports. The school’s mascot is a triton, a Greek mythological creature that is half-human and half-fish. The triton was chosen as the mascot in 1962 because it is a symbol of strength, speed, and intelligence.

The UMSL Tritons have won numerous conference and national championships over the years. Some of the most notable achievements include:

  • Men’s basketball: The Tritons have won 11 GLVC regular-season championships and 10 GLVC tournament championships. They have also made four NCAA Division II tournament appearances.
