The UNC Wilmington Seahawks are the athletic teams that represent the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Seahawks compete in 20 intercollegiate sports at the NCAA Division I level, primarily within the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, and track and field; while women’s sports include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

The Seahawks nickname was chosen in 1937 after a contest among students. The winning entry, submitted by student body president William Randall Thomas, cited the popularity of the Iowa Seahawks, a pre-flight service team coached by former UNCW basketball coach Tom Harvey. The Seahawks logo was designed in 1947 by Stagecraft, Inc., of Cincinnati, Ohio. It features a feisty, strutting bird with “UNCW” across its chest.

The Seahawks have a rich history of athletic success. The men’s basketball team has won six NCAA Tournament games, including a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2006. The women’s basketball team has advanced to the NCAA Tournament six times. The baseball team has won 11 CAA championships and has made two NCAA Tournament appearances. The soccer teams have both won CAA championships and have made NCAA Tournament appearances.
