The Violets compete in the University Athletic Association (UAA) in all sports except men’s volleyball and fencing, which compete in Division I of the Eastern Collegiate Volleyball Association and the Intercollegiate Fencing Association, respectively.

The school colors are white and violet. The violet color was chosen by the university’s first chancellor, Albert Gallatin, who believed that it was a color that would represent the university’s “dignity and intelligence.” The lynx was chosen as the school mascot in 1928 because it is a symbol of strength, courage, and intelligence.

The Violets have a long and storied history in intercollegiate athletics. They have won 12 national championships in men’s fencing, 11 national championships in men’s volleyball, and 2 national championships in women’s volleyball. The Violets have also won numerous conference championships in a variety of sports.

The Violets are a proud part of the New York University community. They represent the university’s commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics.
