The Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm is the athletic program for Southern Nazarene University, which is a private Christian university located in Bethany, Oklahoma. The Crimson Storm compete in the Great American Conference at the NCAA Division II level. They have 20 athletic teams, including men’s and women’s basketball, football, soccer, and track and field.
The Crimson Storm name was chosen in 2000, the same year that the university’s football program was established. The name was inspired by the ESPY Awards, which are given out annually to honor excellence in sports. The Crimson Storm logo has crimson, white, and black colors and the words Crimson Storm written in two separate lines with the image of a lightning bolt in the enclosed portion of the letter O in storm. The team’s colors were chosen to reflect the university’s Christian identity, with crimson representing the blood of Christ and white representing purity.
The Crimson Storm have a rich history of success in athletics. They have won numerous conference championships and have made several appearances in NCAA Division II tournaments. Some of their most notable achievements include:
