The District of Columbia Firebirds are the athletic teams that represent the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), a public historically black university located in Washington, D.C. The Firebirds compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II as a member of the East Coast Conference (ECC).
The Firebirds athletic program began in 1976 and has grown to include 14 varsity sports: men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, track and field, volleyball, tennis, golf, bowling, men’s baseball, and women’s softball. The Firebirds have won numerous conference championships and have made appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
