The Fort Lewis Skyhawks are the athletic teams of Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. They compete in NCAA Division II athletics, and are members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). The Skyhawks have won 16 national championships in their history, all in men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track & field and cross country.
The Skyhawks are named after the nearby Fort Lewis, a United States Army post. The school adopted the mascot in 1956, after a contest among students. The Skyhawk was chosen because it is a symbol of strength, power, and determination.
