The St. Lawrence University Saints are the athletic teams of St. Lawrence University, a private liberal arts college in Canton, New York.
The Saints compete in 33 varsity sports at the NCAA Division III level, primarily as members of the Liberty League conference. However, the men’s ice hockey team competes in the Division I ECAC Hockey league, and the skiing teams compete in the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA).
The Saints nickname dates back to the early 1920s when St. Lawrence’s hockey team was known as the “Saints and Sinners.” The nickname was shortened to simply “Saints” in the 1930s, and it has been the official nickname for all of St. Lawrence’s athletic teams ever since.
