The Johnson & Wales University Wildcats are the athletic teams that represent Johnson & Wales University, a private, coeducational university with its main campus in Providence, Rhode Island, and satellite campuses in North Miami, Florida; Denver, Colorado; and Charlotte, North Carolina. The Wildcats compete in the NCAA Division III level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
The Wildcats’ athletic program consists of 18 varsity sports: baseball, basketball (men’s and women’s), cross country (men’s and women’s), field hockey (women’s), golf (men’s and women’s), ice hockey (men’s), indoor track & field (men’s and women’s), lacrosse (men’s and women’s), rugby (men’s and women’s), soccer (men’s and women’s), softball (women’s), swimming & diving (men’s and women’s), tennis (men’s and women’s), and volleyball (women’s).
The Wildcats have had a great deal of success in athletics, winning numerous conference championships and national titles. The men’s ice hockey team is one of the most successful programs in Division III, having won eight national championships. The women’s volleyball team has also won two national championships. Other notable athletic programs include the men’s and women’s basketball teams, which have each won multiple conference championships, and the baseball team, which has reached the NCAA Division III College World Series twice.
The Wildcats are a source of great pride for the Johnson & Wales University community. The athletic program provides an opportunity for students to compete at a high level and to develop important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and discipline. The Wildcats also represent the university well on the national stage, bringing attention to Johnson & Wales and its commitment to excellence.
