The team was unable to secure a long-term lease for the Manchester Arena and was forced to play its home games in smaller venues in Altrincham and Stockport. The team’s financial problems were exacerbated by the collapse of the ITV Digital television network, which had been scheduled to broadcast all IHS games.
In 2002, the Storm were forced to file for bankruptcy. The team’s assets were sold to a new ownership group, who formed a new team called the Manchester Phoenix. The Phoenix played in the IHS for two seasons before folding in 2004.
